Connecting to The God of Wonders Through His Creation

by Pastor Hal

For the next eight weeks we will be connecting with God through a daily time of seeking Him in His word and in our experiences.  The purpose is to give us daily a sense of awe and connection to Him.

Each week we will look at a different way that God reveals Himself to us.  There will be four daily devotions that will include: Setting, a passage of scripture to read, a meditation, a prayer, and a task for the day.

There are only four days, so you have a little flexibility.  These should not take a lot of time.  They are meant to get you thinking and should be done in the morning to give you thoughts for the day.  Then at the end of the day, take a few moments to journal what your experience has been.

Week 2

Day 1  – The Eternal Word

Setting: This week is more about thinking and meditating.  Select a quiet place where you can mediate and focus without interruption.

Scripture: John 1:1-5

Meditation: When you think of THE WORD, there are a lot of directions you can go.  You can think of your bible, the Word of God, you can think of that inner voice that you feel when the Spirit is speaking to you.  Today we are going to think about the word that is eternal.  What do you think that means?

Prayer: Pray that today God will fill your mind and heart to a new way of thinking.

Task: Write out in your own words what it means to you that the Word is eternal.

Day 2 – The Profitable Word

Setting: Setting should be the same for each day this week.

Scripture: 2nd Timothy 3:16

Meditation: Think about these words today: All, Profitable, Inspired, Teaching, Reproof, Correction, Training.  Look up their meanings and think about how these words apply to God’s Word.

Prayer: Pray today that God will show you how He is using His Word to inspire, teach, reprove, correct and train you.

Task: Write down some scriptures that come to mind, that God has used in your life to change and mold you.  If there is a verse that has particular meaning for you work on memorizing that verse.

Day 3 – The Meditative Word

Setting: Again, find a quiet and comfortable place where you can think and listen.

Scripture: Joshua 1:8

Meditation: What does it mean that God is instructing Joshua that this book of the law is not to depart from his mouth?  What do you see in what he is saying about this being the road to a prosperous life.

Prayer: Pray that God use His Word to direct your path.

Task: Practice meditation on a single verse.  It could be the verse in Joshua or the verse that you are attempting to memorize.  Write the verse down and carry it with you throughout the day.  Look at it often, read or recite it to yourself.  Emphasize different phrases to get its full meaning.

Day 4 – The Word Made Flesh

Setting: Find a comfortable quiet place where you can Think and listen.

Scripture: John 1:14-18

Meditation: In what ways do you see that Jesus is the exact representation of God.  How does He explain Him?

Prayer: Pray that God will mold you into the image of His Son.

Task: In what ways are you a representation of the Father?  Journal your answer.
